Ferry Vehicle - Small vehicle used when access at the residence is restricted. The ferry vehicle moves between the house and the road van or a warehouse with the household goods. See Auxiliary Service and Shuttle Service

Fixed Price Quote (Guaranteed Price, Binding Estimate) - A price given by the carrier that should not change. The price is based on the information supplied to, and on the services ordered from the carrier. The price should not change if the carrier has been given complete information about the move and no changes are made after that. The important thing to remember is, this is a two-way agreement between the shipper and the carrier. The price is based on the information the carrier has about the move at the time the price quote is given. If the details of the move change, such as adding furniture to the move, the price of the move will change. One of the most common changes made at the time of delivery, when we learn that the road van cannot get close to the residence and a Long Carry or a Shuttle is added to the cost of the move. The mover has no way of knowing about the condition at destination until that time.

Flight Charge (Stair Carry) - There are two types of potential Flight or Stair Carry charges. NOTE: not all tariffs have this charge:
  1. If stairs are needed to gain access to the goods or deliver them additional charges may apply. If the stairs are located within the residence (inside the home or apartment) then the charges under this rule will not apply.

  2. Special Services (Piano or Organ carry charges). Any time an item like a piano is moved up or down in an elevator or on a flight of stairs, regardless of whether within the residence or not, a flight charge will apply in addition to any charges applicable from the above paragraph.

Flight of Stairs - The tariff sets very precise definitions as to what constitutes a flight and when the charges apply. In general, fewer than seven steps do not count as a flight. After that, the number of steps determines “flights”. For example, eight to seventeen steps constitute one flight. NOTE: not all tariffs have this charge.

Foam Molding - An expensive method of packing an item for shipment. In a box a form of plastic foam is molded to the shape of the item or items in the box. This type of packing is usually reserved for electronics, some fine arts or other very high value and delicate items. This system is only rarely used in the moving industry for household goods and generally requires the assistance of a Third Party expert.

Full Container Load - A container, usually a steamship cargo container carrying household goods exclusively. Containers come in many sizes. See Exclusive Use of Vehicle.

Full Coverage - Coverage includes loss, fire, damage and breakage. Liability may be restricted to items packed by a professional mover. Exclusions may include a deductible, maximum limits on total value or certain types of items, exclusions for pairs and sets, mechanical derangement and other specific exclusions, such as money, stamp collections and jewelry.

Full Replacement Value Coverage - Also called Maximum Value Protection. This coverage ensures that a cash value assigned to each item moved will be paid if the item is lost, damaged beyond repair or lost. Note that most valuation policies require that the entire load be covered, not just specific items. This is a valuation program that does not consider depreciation as a factor in settling claims for loss or damage.

Full Service Mover - The major factor separating a moving company from other truckers is known as “Inside Pick up and Delivery”. This means the goods are moved from any room inside the current home and delivered to the room requested inside the new home. Other trucking companies only pick up and deliver to the curb. The mover will arrange for all services needed to relocate the household goods. Individual pieces of furniture are wrapped in pads to protect them during shipment. Full service movers will also provide, at additional cost, full packing, appliance service, unpacking services and storage.
