S.I.T. - Storage In Transit; Temporary storage of household goods in the warehouse of the carrier's agent, pending further transportation, usually for fewer than six months.

Shipper - The person whose goods are being moved.

Shuttle Vehicle - Small vehicle used when access at residence is restricted. The shuttle vehicle goes between the house and the large van with your belongings. See Ferry Vehicle.

Space Reservation - When a shipper agrees to pay for a certain amount of space in a van regardless of the size of the shipment.

Standard Coverage - Movers, by law, are required to provide a minimum amount of free coverage. This number, typically 60 cents per pound per item of damaged goods, refers to the amount of money you will receive if any item is damaged. This is based solely on weight and not on the value of an object.

Storage Extension Coverage - In the event that a shipment is placed into storage the shipper may need to extend an original insurance policy for coverage during for this period. There is usually an additional premium involved and the shipper may need to give the insurance provider or mover written instructions to do this.

Storage In Transit (S.I.T.) - Temporary storage of household goods in the warehouse of the carrier's agent, pending further transportation, usually for fewer than six months.

Straight Truck - A single cab truck that is usually about half the size of a tractor-trailer. These are typically used only for local moving. See Bob Tail.

Survey - The booking or origin agent’s examination of the shipper's goods in order to develop a cost estimate. See Estimate.

Surveyor - An employee of the moving company who will call at the home, discuss the move requirements and examine household items in order to provide an estimate of the cost of the move. Also called the Estimator.
