Valuation - Law limits movers’ liability for loss or damage to goods. In general, the liability of the carrier is limited to 60 cents per pound per item. If an item is damaged or lost the mover will need to establish how much the item weighs. That amount is then multiplied by 60 cents to establish the maximum liability of the mover. For example: if you chose not to purchase additional valuation coverage and an article weighing ten pounds was destroyed, you would receive six dollars regardless of the actual value of the article. There are several options to increase the carrier’s liability. You will be charged for this increase.
Van Line - A company that holds the proper legal operating authority to move used household goods for individuals. The company may perform some of the functions necessary to accomplish this task through the use if other independent companies which have signed “Agency Agreements” with the Van Line to act on their behalf. See Carrier.
Van Operator - Generally refers to the driver of the vehicle.
Van - Any kind of vehicle with a closed box or body; no matter what size.
